Scheduling and running the normalization process

To apply normalization rules that you have created to standardize records in BMC Remedyforce CMDB 2.0 and the models repository, you must run the normalization process. You can schedule the normalization process to run at regular time intervals. This action ensures that new data (either manually created or regularly imported from other sources) is processed on an ongoing basis.

For more information about the end-to-end normalization process, see Overview of the normalization process.

To schedule and run the normalization process

  1. Click the Remedyforce Administration tab.
  2. On the Home page, click the Configure CMDB 2.0 tile, and from the menu, select General CMDB Settings.
  3. On the General CMDB Settings page, in the Schedule Normalization Rules section, perform the following actions:
    1. In the Process Normalization Rules Every field, specify the time interval at which the normalization rules must be processed.

      Best practice

By default, normalization rules are processed every 30 minutes. If you are processing a large amount of data, we recommend that you increase the time interval.

    2. Click Start Normalization Process.

Note

During the normalization process, if a field value in a record qualifies for two or more normalization rules that are defined for that field, only one of the rules is applied.

To view errors generated during the normalization process

To view the errors that are generated during the normalization process, click View Scheduler Exceptions in the Schedule Normalization Rules section. You can view a maximum 100 of the most recent exceptions.

The following image is an example of the normalization exceptions that are generated during the normalization process.
