Starting the BMC Client Management console from the CMDB Manager

To work in BMC Client Management or to perform additional actions other than the actions available from the BCM Actions menu, you can start the BMC Client Management console from the CMDB Manager (accessed from the Remedyforce CMDB tab). For information about the actions that you can perform from the BCM Actions menu, see BCM Actions menu options.

The following topics are provided:

Prerequisite to start the BMC Client Management console

Note

If BCM 12.8 Patch 2 or a later version is integrated with Remedyforce 20.19.01, instead of JNLP files, binary files will be downloaded. For more information about Java 11 support, see Overview of the BMC Remedyforce integration with BMC Client Management.

For Remedyforce versions earlier than 20.19.01 and BCM versions earlier than 12.8 Patch 2, BMC Remedyforce uses Java Web Start to start the BMC Client Management console . You must install the latest version of the Oracle Java Runtime Environment (JRE) on your computer, as listed in the following table.

For versions prior to Java 11, when you install the JRE, Java Web Start is also installed on your computer. For more information about Java Web Start, see http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/javaws.

You can download JRE from http://www.java.com/getjava.

Configuring browser settings to start the BMC Client Management console

For Remedyforce versions earlier than 20.19.01 and BCM versions earlier than 12.8, when you start the BMC Client Management console from the CMDB Manager, you are prompted to download a Java Network Launch Protocol (JNLP) file from your Salesforce.com organization only. Otherwise, a JNLP file is downloaded that you can run to start the BMC Client Management console.

If case the JNLP file is downloaded, to avoid being prompted to download the JNLP file each time you start the BMC Client Management console, you must configure the settings for your browser.

Note

Some of these settings might vary in different versions of a browser.

Starting the BMC Client Management console

  1. Navigate to the Remedyforce CMDB tab.
  2. In the Configuration Items List view, click Launch BCM Console.

    Note

This toolbar button is displayed in the Configuration Items List view only if your system administrator has enabled the integration between BMC Remedyforce and BMC Client Management.

  3. Based on the Remedyforce and BCM versions, either JNLP or binary file will be downloaded. Based on the type of file downloaded, perform the following actions:

    Run the binary file.

    1. Download the CMDBManager.JNLP file from your Salesforce.com organization to your computer.
If the CMDBManager.JNLP file is already present in your cache, the file name is incremented by one; for example, CMDBManager1.JNLPCMDBManager2.JNLP, and so on.
    2. To start the BMC Client Management console, open the JNLP file with Java Web Start.

Note

If you are a valid BMC Client Management administrator and are connecting from BMC Remedyforce to BMC Client Management for the first time, the BMC Client Management Authentication dialog box is displayed. You must enter your BMC Client Management credentials in this dialog box. Your BMC Client Management user name is saved, and you do not need to enter your credentials for future connection attempts.
