Metric query

As a tenant administrator or an editor, you can use the Metric query type to fetch the performance metrics data of the devices in your environment.

This query type uses the PromQL or MetricsQL syntax.

This query requires the following data:

FieldDescription
Query TypeUse this field to select the query type
Source

The following sources are available:

  • Monitor
  • Optimize

You can select either of these sources to fetch data from BMC Helix Operations Management or BMC Helix Capacity Optimization.

Metrics

Add a metrics query to this field.

You can also select an available query form the list. Click the Metrics field to view a list of available queries.

Legend

Add a legend to appear in the panel.

You can use a variable here. For example, the value of the {{hostname}} variable is replaced with the host name in the panel.

Min stepAdd a threshold for a lower limit of the Prometheus query. This setting is absolute, and cannot be changed by the value in the Resolution field.
Resolution

Sets the parameter for each pixel to correspond to one data point of a Prometheus range query. Use lower resolutions for better performance.

For more information, see https://bit.ly/2YGLMZR .

Format

Select one of the following formats for the panel:

  • Time Series
  • Table
  • Heatmap

Use this radio button to return only the latest value for the requested time series. Instant queries return results faster than the normal range queries.

Examples

Here are a few examples of the Metric query type:

  • View the CPU utilization for a LINUX host, where the host name is hostA.bmc.com.
    Utilization{hostname="hostA.bmc.com"}
  • View the available filesystem space on a device for the root file system, where the host name is hostB.bmc.com.
    AvailableSpace{hostname="hostB.bmc.com", entityName="root"}
