Installing

This section provides information about installing the BMC Atrium Orchestrator platform and content.

Note

This version of BMC Atrium Orchestrator does not support the use of custom realms.

Note

Before installing BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform version 7.8.02 or later, if your BMC Atrium Orchestrator environment will use HTTPS, ensure that your environment supports TLS secure transport protocol.

Installation process checklist

This topic describes a typical BMC Atrium Orchestrator installation and the order in which you must install the components. You can use the installation checklist in this section to keep track of your progress.

Regardless of whether you use the GUI installation or the silent installation, you must install the BMC Atrium Orchestrator components in the order shown in Component installation checklist.

Warning

When installing BMC Atrium Orchestrator components on a UNIX computer, ensure that the installation path does not contain a back slash ('\').

To install and configure BMC Atrium Orchestrator for a high-availability environment, see Installing a CDP as an HA-CDP.

To install and configure BMC Atrium Orchestrator with BMC Atrium Single Sign-On (SSO) high-availability clusters, see Installing BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform with BMC Atrium Single Sign-On high availability clusters.

Description

1.

BMC Atrium Single Sign-On

Install BMC Atrium Single Sign-On first.

If you are using an existing SSO installation, you must have the internal LDAP enabled, because it uses the AoAdmin account when the CDP is installed.

For more information about installing BMC Atrium Single Sign-On, see  Installing Open link  section in the  BMC Atrium Single Sign-On online technical documentation Open link .

BMC Atrium Single Sign-On must be up and running before you install any BMC Atrium Orchestrator components.

2.

Repository

  • Install the repository after you create a BMCAtriumOrchestrator group and assign a user to the group in BMC Atrium Single Sign-On. For more information, see Creating user accounts and assigning user accounts to groups in BMC Atrium Single Sign-On.
  • The repository installation program requires the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On server to be up and running to execute the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On deployment .jar file that registers the agent with the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On instance.

3.

Configuration Distribution Peer (CDP)

  • Install the CDP after you have successfully installed the repository.
  • You can install the BMC Atrium Orchestrator Operator Control Panel application with the CDP.
  • The CDP installation program requires the repository and the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On server to be up and running. The CDP installation program gets the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On location from the running repository and also collects the SSL certificates from the repository and places them in the trust store if the security protocol is HTTPS.
  • After you install the CDP, create an account in BMC Atrium Single Sign-On and use that account to log on to Grid Manager.
  • After installing the primary CDP, the Default group has full access to the repository and to the grid, just as the AoAdmin group. Edit the Default group to remove the following permissions: Development Studio, Grid Administration, and Grid Management.

4.

Additional peers:

  • High-availability configuration distribution peer (HA-CDP)
  • Activity peer (AP)
  • Lightweight activity peer (LAP)

Important

Before you install any additional peers, you must use Grid Manager to add the peer to the grid.

The HA-CDP installation program requires the CDP, repository, and the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On server to be up and running.

The installation program communicates with the CDP to find the repository and the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On server, get the HTTPS certificates and place them in the trust store, and run the BMC Atrium Single Sign-On agent deployer.

5.Dashboard

Install the Health and Value Dashboard component any time after you complete step 3 and configure the CDP.

You must configure the BMC Atrium Orchestrator environment to work with the dashboards after installing them.

For information about installing the dashboard component, see Installing the dashboards.

6.

BMC Atrium Orchestrator Content, which includes adapters, modules, and run books

Content includes adapters, modules, and run books.

You can perform this step any time after you complete step 3.

For more information about installing content, see Installing BMC Atrium Orchestrator Content.

7.

BMC Atrium Orchestrator Development Studio

BMC recommends that you install BMC Atrium Orchestrator Development Studio after you install the CDP and content. While you can install Development Studio without installing the CDP and content, to use content in Development Studio, you must connect Development Studio to the grid where you have installed the content.
