User scenario for extending mail box size by using BMC MyIT

This topic describes how the out-of-the-box Extend Mailbox Size service available for BMC MyIT Service Broker works when using BMC Atrium Orchestrator as a service fulfillment engine.

Before you run the extend mailbox size service

Before an end user can view the service in BMC MyIT, the following tasks must be complete:

Overview

An end user submits a request in BMC MyIT application for extending the user's Microsoft Outlook mailbox size to the desired size. While requesting an extension, the user specifies the mailbox size as per the user's requirement. After a request for extending mailbox size is submitted, the BMC MyIT Service Broker workflow attached to the service invokes the specified BMC Atrium Orchestrator process to communicate with the fulfillment application, in this case, with Microsoft Exchange and extends the mailbox size as per the user's request.

The following figure shows the services available in BMC MyIT.

  1. An end user requests the Extend Mailbox service in BMC MyIT. Based on the questions configured in BMC MyIT Service Broker, the user is asked to specify the email address and the extension size, in MB.
  2. After the request is submitted, the MyIT Service Broker workflow attached to the Extend Mailbox Size service is triggered to fulfill the service request.
  3. The Invoke BAO Service activity from the MyIT Service Broker workflow invokes the BMC Atrium Orchestrator corresponding workflow, which interacts with the third-party application, in this case, Microsoft Exchange Server and extends the size of the mailbox as specified in the request.
  4. In BMC MyIT, the status of the request is updated and the request is marked as closed.
