New Storage Group operation

The New Group Stage process creates a storage group on the specified server. The following table describes the input parameters for New Storage Group process.

Important

The New Storage Group operation is only supported on Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. For Microsoft Exchange Server versions 2010, 2013, and 2016 see the Database Availability Group Management operations.

<CircularLoggingEnabled>

Has values as true and false

If the value of the parameter is true then circular logging is enabled.

The default value is false. Circular logging is automatically disabled if HasLocalCopy, CopyLogFolderPath, or CopySystemFolderPath is specified.

<CopyLogFolderPath>

Specifies the folder location for copies of the log files

The default path is <ExchangeInstallPath>\Mailbox\LocalCopies\<StorageGroupName>. The location must be local. Remote-access disk drives are not permissible.

<CopySystemFolderPath>

Specifies the folder location for copies of the system files

The default path is <ExchangeInstallPath>\Mailbox\LocalCopies_\<StorageGroupName>_.

<DomainController>

Specifies the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the domain controller that writes this configuration change to the Active Directory directory service

The DomainController parameter should be included in the command.

<HasLocalCopy>

Checks whether the storage group has a local copy

If value is true then the storage group has a local storage group copy. The default value is false* if no copy paths are provided. If at least one copy path is provided, the default is *true.

<LogFolderPath>

Specifies the folder location for log files

The default path is <ExchangeInstallPath>\Mailbox <StorageGroupName>.

<ReplayLagTime>

Specifies the time length, Microsoft Exchange Replication Service should wait before replaying log files that have been copied to the SCR target computer, when SCR is configured for a storage group

The format is Days.Hours:Minutes:Seconds. The default setting for this value is 24 hours. The maximum allowable setting for this value is 7 days. The minimum allowable setting is 0 seconds, although setting this value to 0 seconds will not affect the default delay in log replay activity of 50 log files.

Note: ReplayLagtime can be specified only when StandbyMachine is specified.

<Server>

Specifies the name of the server where the storage group will be created

The server must have the mailbox server role installed.

<StandbyMachine>

Specifies the server where the SCR copy is located

The standby computer should have the mailbox role installed and should not be part of a cluster with a configured clustered mailbox server.

Valid values for StandbyMachine are:

  • FQDN
  • Server name

<SystemFolderPath>

Specifies the folder location for system files

The default path is <ExchangeInstallPath>\Mailbox<StorageGroupName>.

<TemplateInstance>

Specifies the template that is used to create the storage group

<TruncationLagTime>

Specifies the amount of time that the Microsoft Exchange Replication Service should wait before truncating log files that have been copied to the SCR target computer and replayed into the copy of the database

The time period begins after the log has been successfully replayed into the copy of the database.

The format for this parameter is Days.Hours:Minutes:Seconds.

The maximum allowable setting for this value is 7 days. The minimum allowable setting is 0 seconds, although setting this value to 0 seconds effectively eliminates any delay in log truncation activity.

<ZeroDatabasePages>

Has values as true and false

When the value is true, zeroing deleted pages is enabled. The default value is false.
