Prerequisites for the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager monitor adapter

You must ensure the following before configuring the monitor adapter:

  1. The DLLs listed below are copied to a location on the peer on which the monitor adapter is enabled. This location is specified as the value of the library-path configuration parameter.
    1. climsgs.dll
    2. srvmsgs.dll
    3. provmsgs.dll
    4. FormatMessageCtl.dll

The first three DLLs can be found at either of the following locations:
      • c:\windows\system32\smsmsgs
      • <SCCM_Installation_Path>\bin\i386\system32\smsmsgs

  2. FormatMessageCtl.dll is registered on the peer where the monitor adapter is enabled. The steps for this are as follows:
    1. Locate FormatMessageCtl.dll at the following location: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\SMSComponent\FormatMessageCtl.dll
    2. If FormatMessageCtl.dll does not exist at this location, then in the Dos command prompt, browse to \<SCCM_Installation_Path>\BIN\I386, run reportinginstall.exe /x, and extract the FormatMessageCtl.dll file with the size ~40 KB
    3. Place FormatMessageCtl.dll in the location which is specified as the value of the library-path configuration parameter.
    4. Register the .dll using the following command:

Regsvr32.exe FormatMessageCtl.dll You can configure an adapter in BMC Atrium Orchestrator Grid Manager. The configuration determines how the adapter interacts with the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager application. Although each adapter must have a unique name, you can create multiple adapters with the same adapter type to allow for different configuration properties.
