Storage provisioning workflows

BMC Atrium Orchestrator Run Book for NetApp Solutions delivers automated workflows specific to each step of the storage provisioning process, from requesting storage to deploying it in the environment. The Provision Storage Request workflow integrates with VMware software to provision storage, and opens or closes IT service management change tickets.

Before the run book provisions storage, the workflows verify that the storage request can be fulfilled. At a minimum, the workflows compare the space available with the space requested on the specified server. The workflows check other resource pool characteristics, such as the health of the host, which help you make an informed decision about approving the request.

After the workflows determine that the storage request can be fulfilled, BMC Atrium Orchestrator calls the NetApp Provisioning Manager APIs to provision storage, specifying the resource pool, provisioning policy, and size of storage.

BMC Atrium Orchestrator provides feedback about the status of the provisioning process through the workflow outputs. The workflow success status is validated when BMC Atrium Orchestrator retrieves the associated storage configuration. The success status details populate the change tasks, which the workflow mark as complete. Finally, BMC Atrium Orchestrator verifies and ensures that the datastores are visible to the server. The following table describes the storage provisioning workflows:
